optimisation

It's easy to say that governance must be lean, simple and straightforward, but yet effective. In practice however, these priorities are often conflicting each other. For example, it is very hard not to introduce complexity if the aim is to increase control. Possible, but then may require resources, e.g. automation. And it goes on - there are many trade-offs which are required and possible.

It is also important to recognise that there is no single correct answer - for different organisations, in different circumstances the aims may be different. Available resources may vary. Better still - it all keeps changing with time and evolution of your organisation and it's objectives.

However, if not done right, it either fails to deliver the purpose or becomes a thing of it's own, draining resources or actually preventing from reaching the objectives.
